Medical School

We had quite the rush during the holiday season...
  • In the middle of November, Nate decided to apply to medical school in the caribbean on a whim just to see what would happen...he didn't have his bachelor's degree yet.
  • We found out we were pregnant two days after we decided we should wait on another kid till we found out about medical school (that plan really worked) We are due July 11th, and yes I am going back to the states to have boy #2. (We are still coming up with names and are open for suggestions)
  • We went to Disneyland with the Garners at the beginning of December.
  • In the middle of December, we found out that we were accepted to medical school and would have to be in Dominica by January 1st.
  • And we took a previously planned trip to Washington for a week for Christmas.

I'm not really sure how we made it to Dominica in one piece, but I do know for sure my house was nowhere near being packed up, so thanks to the Hathcocks for finishing that for us.

So I thought I would post pictures from our adventures so far.

They have little kid grocery carts at the IGA here... Owen loves pushing them down the aisles.

Halloween

So, we took some pictures at Halloween, and I spent a long time learning how to crochet so that I could make Owen's costume, so I thought I would share its awesomeness!

Graduation!

Saturday I graduated from nursing school. Wohoo!! I am happy to be done with school, and hopefully start making lots of money. Now I get start studying to take the NCLEX, and hope that I pass the first time. I gave myself a present for graduation, a new dress, Nate thought it was funny when I told him I was going to buy it, as opposed to asking if I could, but he thinks it was a good investment. My body decided to congratulate me on graduating by getting strep throat, what fun! But Nate was good enough to take care of me and go to the store at 5 in the morning to get me some more medicine. He even taught nursery all by himself, we had a record number of nine kids that day. He did start getting nervous when my temp went up to 102, and he started checking my temperature every hour, all through the night. I started getting dehyrated because I couldn't swallow anything, I had to keep spitting in the sink because I couldn't even swallow my own spit. Nate made me drink a glass of orange juice this morning so I could get some fluids in me, I was crying while drinking it cause it hurt so much, but he threatened to take me to the hospital so I could get IV fluids if I didn't drink all of it. I went to the doctor today and he gave me an antibiotic shot and tylenol 3 and throat spray. Now I can eat, swallow, and drink lots of orange juice!

While crabbing in Washington, we went fishing, and all I caught were these little shark looking fish, it was great, I would throw my line in and about thirty seconds later, I would get a bite. I was told that they urinate through their skin and it makes your hands smell really bad, so I let the guy with the gloves touch them.

We went to Chittenden Locks and they have a fish ladder for the salmon, and they have glass in a small area so you can see the fish going up the ladder.

This was on our drive back to St. George from Arizona and we stopped at Lake Mary for a break.

When we were in Washington, Nate's mom had mentioned that Forks was only a couple of hours away. I figured we would never be that close again, so I convinced Nate that we needed to go and get a picture next to the sign.

The Russell's

We were married January 2, 2009, to kick off our marriage, we started school three days later at Dixie State College in St. George Utah. Nate is going to school and working at Washington Mutual, and I am a nursing student and will graduate in December!
For my birthday in February, Nate made me an awesome Funfetti cake we didn't have any candles so we stuck matches in the cake and I blew those out instead! After he surprised me and took me to the ballet, Sleeping Beauty. I had found an
advertisement for it in the mail and very sneakily left it out on the counter for three days, I must say my husband picks up on suttle clues quite well.
For spring break I went on a cruise with my sister's to Catalina Island and Mexico, while Nate stayed home and started his first week of work!
We are enjoying the beginning of our summer and the nice weather. Nate is taking a phlebotomy program over the summer and he is really excited to learn how to draw blood.
